Keto, Keto, KETOO!

Aloha, All, i'm back with another dietary mission.


For those who are unaware I have been sentenced to my bed due to a torn cartilage & ligament in my knee. Prior to this i had been religiously visiting the gym so that I could be in tip top shop for my 21st Birthday but because of this knee problem the gym is no longer an option. This led to me finding ways to lose significant amounts of weight without needing to complete any physical activities. I've tried intermittent fasting which really wasn't for me and now were here at Keto.


What is the Ketogenic diet?

The Keto diet is a very low carb diet that focuses on replacing sugar and carbs with fat. The reduction of carbs sends the body into a state of shock called ketosis. During ketosis the body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy so much so that the entire body switches its fuel supply to run mostly on fat. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. When insulin levels become extremely low, fat burning can increase dramatically making it easier to access the fat stores to burn them off.


How do you get into ketosis?

Ketosis is reached by eating less than 20 net carbs per day. Below is an outline of what 20 net carbs look like on a high carb plate vs a low carb looks like.


As you can see from the above images 20 net carbs from our usual everyday meals consists of a very small portion of food and frankly i'm not eating one half of a bread bun or one potato for the whole day.


For my own benefit and for the benefit of those who may wish to try this out at a later date I created my own tables of good & bad food and drinks based on the recommendations of the health scientists which you may find below:






So with that all being said, lets see what this new mission has in store for my body.
